Jane Withers, Disney Voice Actress, Passes Away at 95
Jane Withers, a child star and actress that provided voiceover work for Disney, has unfortunately passed away at 95 surrounded by family.
Her long line of work began when she was just 3 and a half years of age, in which she hosted he own radio show after winning a local contest named Dixie’s Dainty Dewdrop.
In the show, she would interview celebrities who were visiting her hometown of Atlanta, GA.
Just three years later, Withers moved to Hollywood to pursue film opportunities and was cast in her first film, Handle with Care, and the rest was history.
It wasn’t until the late 1990s and early 2000s that her work with Disney would begin.
In 1995, she was approached to try to mimic Mary Wickes, who was the voice of Laverne the gargoyle in The Hunchback of Notre Dame. This was due to Wickes’ unfortunate passing during post-production, with some of her lines still needing to be adjusted.
Withers then took over the mantle for the role for the 2002 sequel, The Huncback of Notre Dame II due to her similar-sounding voice.
She continued the role in the two video games based upon the film: The Hunchback of Notre Dame: Topsy Turvey Tales and Disney’s Animated Storybook: The Hunchback of Notre Dame.
Her work with the Walt Disney Company does not stop there, as she also provided additional voices for Mickey Mouse Works and The House of Mouse in 1999 and 2001 respectively.
Thank you Jane Withers for your contribution to the golden age of Hollywood, and the MickeyBlog family sends their condolences to the Withers family at this time.
