2 New Tropical Disturbances Have Formed In the Atlantic Ocean
The tropics are typically starting to heat up around this time in August. And if you’re anything like me, living in Hurricane territory, you always keep a close eye on the forecasts. Currently, there are 2 tropical developments in the Atlantic. Of course they are still many days away so they are nothing to worry about anytime soon.
The disturbance in yellow has less than a 40% chance of developing and the disturbance in red has a greater than 60% chance of developing. We will continue to monitor these tropical areas as the days go on.
Hurricane season really kicks into high gear around mid-August and people traveling to Disney World from now through November are always on high alert. It’s hard to completely steer clear of some type of tropical disturbance this time of year in Florida, so it’s good to always be prepared.
Since 1971 there have been 7 Park Closures due to hurricanes. These are as follows:
- 1999- Hurricane Floyd
- 2004- Hurricane Charley
- 2004- Hurricane Frances
- 2004- Hurricane Jeanne
- 2016- Hurricane Matthew
- 2017- Hurricane Irma
- 2019- Hurricane Dorian
Those are pretty good odds over Walt Disney World’s almost 50-year history!
