Park Hopping Rule at Disneyland to Be Permanent
The park hopping rule put in place at Disneyland and Disney California Adventure upon reopening looks to be permanent.
When the parks reopened on April 30, Disneyland followed the lead of Walt Disney World by instituting a theme park reservation system. And they followed Florida by adding the rule that you can’t hop to the other park until 1 p.m. or later.
The park hopping rule was put in place to control the flow of the crowds in the parks. While Disneyland has been increasing capacity in the parks, keeping the park hopping rule will allow them to manage the crowds.
Per the Disneyland website,
Guests who purchase or have a Park Hopper ticket and an appropriate park reservation may cross over and switch between parks on the same day beginning at 1:00 PM. Please check the Park Hours calendar and the Disneyland app for the most up-to-date Park Hopper hours, as they could start earlier at a later date, depending on the day and park. Guests with Park Hopper tickets must make a park reservation for the first park they plan to visit AND enter that first park prior to visiting the other park. At this time, a park reservation is not required after the first park; however, reservation requirements are subject to change. Please note that the ability to visit the other park will be subject to that park’s capacity limitations.
Prior to the 412-day shutdown of Disneyland, guests with park hopper tickets could go from park to park at their leisure.
Getting into those virtual queues
With the park hopping rule remaining in place, guests must be strategic about the attractions with virtual queues.
Guests with theme park reservations for Disneyland Park can enter the virtual queue for Rise of the Resistance at 7 a.m. If you park hop to Disneyland, you can only try for the virtual queue in the afternoon.
The same is true for Web Slingers in the Avengers Campus at Disney California Adventure. You can only get two shots at the virtual queue if you have your theme park reservation for that day at Disney California Adventure.
Park hopping rule – good or bad?
Do you like the park hopping rule? I’ve had clients who have visited since the reopening who have park hopped and others who haven’t.
Park hopper tickets are generally an additional $55 per ticket, so you need to think about whether hopping is important to you and your family. Personally, I like to do the park hopping. When I visit Disneyland after a long time away, my preference is to spend three or four days at the parks. That way I can get theme park reservations at both parks on multiple days, with more chances to get into those queues.
