FIRST LOOK: Wonderful World of Animation is Back at Hollywood Studios and We Were There
Happy Monday Disney friends!
If you’ve been following along with MickeyBlog this weekend you’ll know that our excitement levels had reached fever pitch.
That’s because for the first time in over a year, Disney World’s nighttime shows are making a comeback.
We were there when Happily Ever After fireworks returned to Magic Kingdom and when EPCOT Forever reopened.
Last night (August 1st) it was Disney Hollywood Studios’ time to shine with the return of the dazzling World of Animation projection show.
The show will be running nightly beginning a 9pm.
If you’ve never seen Wonderful World of Animation in person, it is truly a sight to behold.
Visitors line-up along Hollywood Boulevard to watch this dazzling nighttime spectacular with the Chinese Theater as its backdrop.
The theater and neighboring buildings provide a panoramic view of whimsical and wonderful panoramic projections.
As we previously reported, crowds started to fill up on Hollywood Boulevard well before showtime.
As you can see from the image above, Disney has roped off the section directly in front of the theater which was previously a viewing area.
All-in-all this is probably a great idea as it allows a clearer perspective of the expansive projection area.
Disney refers to Wonderful World of Animation as an unprecedented collection of new, classic and rarely seen animated films.
The show features projections that highlight over 90 of Disney and Pixar animation.
The colors of this display are absolutely dazzling.
And there’s actually a wonderful narrative that weaves the whole thing together.
As the title suggests, the evening show offers a stunning tribute to animation.
Our MickeyBloggers Greg and Elyssa captured some incredible images of the stories intertwined through this show.
You’ll notice distinct themes of magic, family, adventure, romance and friendship weaving its way through the production.
You’ll find a wide range of shows represented here.
We love that Wreck-It-Ralph is celebrated.
Above you can see Ralph’s colorful takeover of the Chinese Theater.
There are beautiful sequences like Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs below.
The ornate details from Mulan look breathtaking on the Chinese Theater.
As you can see the skies over Orlando were quite foggy but that didn’t stop the magic!
Below is an adorable montage of Oliver and Co.
We love all of the tropical details going into the Moana display.
And just look at how Mary Blair’s illustrations for Sleeping Beauty comes to life.
It’s amazing how the show beautifully captures some of the quieter moments like this scene from The Little Mermaid below.
It’s not just the theater that tells a story. The side panels elaborate on each of the scenes.
One of our favorite moments of the night was the Beauty and the Beast imagery.
Both Belle and Beast were featured on the theater.
Below you see both Princess and the Frog and Hercules represented in these beautiful scenes.
The image below gives a real sense of the size and scale of this production.
Look at all of the incredible colors in the Lilo & Stitch scene below.
In the scene below you can see Dumbo.
Above is Rapunzel’s parents sharing a quiet moment.
This scene below is all about family with scenes from Dumbo and Coco.
Pixar is also well represented in the show.
This includes the Incredibles.
Below Elastagirl takes center stage.
And here’s a few of our favorite Zootopia friends.
Life is a highway with this fun Cars montage.
This image of Lightning McQueen makes us want to say- Kachow!
Below, this stunning scenes featuring Hercules takes you back to ancient Greece.
As you would expect, it would be a Disney nighttime show with out a few pyrotechnics.
Giant spotlights are also used in the productions which you can see beaming their way through the fog.
Even the classic Disney cartoon shorts are well represented.
We love the retro feel of this Mickey Mouse display.
The retro projections on the Chinese Theater below look so believable.
There’s even a portion of the show dedicated to Sorcerer Mickey from Fantasia.
Check out Mickey casting his beautiful spells.
Just look at those beautiful hues. Even the palm trees have a part to play.
Watch as the theater is magically transformed to Agrabah!
Don’t miss your chance to check out this incredible show for yourself!
Hours are currently posted for the show which appears to be running nightly.
Be sure to double check showtimes when arriving at the park.
You can do this by grabbing a resort guide or using the My Disney Experience app.
