Joaquin Phoenix Pleads for ‘Brother Bear’ Animals
Joaquin Phoenix pleads a Florida park to transfer some Brother Bear animals to an animal sanctuary. Accordingly, Joaquin Phoenix, an Academy Award winner, played Kenai in the 2003 film.
Florida’s Bearadise Ranch
However, Florida’s Bearadise Ranch houses the bears that inspired Brother Bear‘s characters. Phoenix wrote a letter, requesting the bears’ transfer to “an accredited sanctuary.”
The Academy Award winner is an animal advocate. Also, he worked with People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) in the past.
The Bearadise Ranch claims to “educate and generate public awareness for habitat preservation and conservation for all bear species.” However, some feel the bears should be in a less entertainment-based setting.
The Viewpoint of an Animal Lover
First, Phoenix states, “I just learned that two of the bears used in your traveling show, Bambi and Bruno, served as models for Disney’s Brother Bear. I voiced the movie’s main character, Kenai.” Ironically, Kenai magically transforms “to see the world through bears’ eyes.” And now, Joaquin Phoenix asks The Bearadise Ranch to see life through their eyes, too.
Next, he writes that the “bears deserve better than a life on the road…robbed of everything that’s natural and important to them.” Phoenix trusts that The Beardise Ranch understands this viewpoint, according to his letter.
Furthermore, he states, “You know firsthand that bears are curious, complex animals who love to climb, dig, forage, and play. Their acute sense of smell and plate-sized paws evolved so that they could seek out mates and food across vast distances.”
Phoenix’s Request
Phoenix says the bears’ “carefully honed traits are wasted on the county fair circuit.” Indeed, the bears live in transport cages while “they’re not pulling hoops over their heads and carrying basketballs around…”
Then, he explains, “Bambi and Bruno will never experience life in the wild. They’ll never get to sniff out salmon runs or traverse mountains. But, that doesn’t mean their lives can’t improve.”
Phoenix asks, “Will you please consider putting an end to the tricks and the travel? Give all the bears at your facility the chance just to live like bears.”
Finally, he concludes, “If you want to do what’s truly the best thing for them, let me help you make arrangements.” Joaquin Phoenix pleads for the bears to be transferred to an accredited sanctuary.
