Jungle Cruise Box Office Figures are in and Film Underperforms Next To ‘Black Widow’
This weekend marked the official opening of the Jungle Cruise at theaters nationwide and as we head into Saturday evening, box office figures are starting to trickle in.
Though the film has massive star power in the form of Emily Blunt and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson it’s failing to reach the heights of Marvel’s Black Widow which finished at the top end of post pandemic movie releases.
According to a recent piece in DEADLINE, Jungle Cruise opened at $14.378 million with predictions of an overall $32.5 million opening. This is better than Cruella’s $21.5 million opener. Both of the films also debuted on Disney+ where subscribers where charged a $29.99 Premier Access fee per household if they wanted to view the film.
Now, it should be noted that the delta variant has been in the news a lot this past week with some businesses going back to implementing indoor face mask policies. This may have deterred guests from heading to the theaters as they’ve done for Disney’s other Summer releases. It will be interesting to see the Disney+ figures when they come in!
As DEADLINE points out, Jungle Cruise is doing well with audiences earning a Cinemascore of an A- . It’s not surprising that the film is ranking especially high with young kids with under 12s giving the film an 87% positivity rate!
Despite a controversial week, (Scarlet Johansson announced that she is suing Disney) the film is still in theaters where it earned an additional $6.09 million. To date, the film has earned $166.7 million at the box office.
