The Lion King Returns to London’s West End Tonight!
After over a year of being closed due to the pandemic, The Lion King returns to London’s West End tonight to many eager fans.
The hit musical adaptation of the classic Disney animated movie first debuted on Broadway– just two years before making its way across the pond to delight and grab the hearts of British theatergoers and tourists alike.
Ever since the opening performance on October 19, 1999, until March 16, 2020, various cast and crew members put their heart and soul into each performance with the show being seen by an estimated 16 million people over the years.
There will be 14 new cast members joining the cast in their reopening, including Kayi Ushe who will be taking on the journey of Simba each night, and Phil Adèle’s West End debut as one of Scar’s henchmen, Ed.
The cast and crew are ecstatic and emotional to be back entertaining audiences once more after the lengthy absence.
I’m getting emotional right now because this is what we are born to do, so when you guys come out to see the show on July 29 and onwards, that’s the energy you’re going to be feeling.
Janique Charles, who plays the role of Nala tells, and carries on to say
It’s going to be electric, it will be as no other West End show that you’ve seen before.
Meanwhile, audiences in New York are still awaiting the return of Broadway, with The Lion King currently set to reopen in September.
It has also been announced that Mary Poppins will return to the West End on August 7th as Disney’s only other current permanent West End production.
