BREAKING: CDC Recommends Indoor Masks EVEN For Those Vaccinated
As predicted by our MickeyBlogger Julia this morning, today was a big day for CDC News. The Center for Disease Control has updated masking guidelines.
Due to the increase in COVID-19 cases throughout the US and in response to the strength of the delta variant, the CDC is NOW recommending that even vaccinated people return to wearing masks indoors anywhere that the COVID cases are dramatically rising.

Details are also emerging that the delta variant is spreading among vaccinated people. With this in mind the CDC is also recommending mask use for teachers, staff and students when schools resume later this Summer. This is regardless of whether these individuals have been vaccinated or not!
The new CDC guidelines follow decisions in Los Angeles and St Louis to reimplement indoor mask mandates after there have been a spike in COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations in those cities.

According to a recent piece on ABC News, the country is now averaging 57,000 cases a day and 24,000 hospitalizations.
Though most infections are amongst those that are unvaccinated, there have been instances of “breakthrough” infections for those that have already been vaccinated. Though symptoms tend to be milder in individuals that have been vaccinated, what has officials concerned is that the Delta variant is such a strong strain that even those that those that have the vaccination can still have symptoms and can still pass the infection on to others.

So what does this mean for those planning a Summer getaway to somewhere like Disney? We aren’t sure as of yet.
Facemask restrictions were in place going into 2021 but were ultimately done away with as vaccination rates went up around the country. At that time Disney swiftly updated its plan allowing guests to go maskless outdoors but needing to mask up indoors before the enforcement of masks was done away with completely.
Florida has been hit particularly hard with an increase of infection rates. Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings gave a press conference this week to say that there are 1,000 cases of COVID-19 diagnosed in Florida each day. This brings the infection rate in the state up to 18%.
This is attributed to a myriad of different factors including the large amount of Americans that are still unvaccinated and the fact that many of these unvaccinated individuals may not wear face masks.
As for Disney, the company has made no official announcement as to whether the theme parks and resorts will be impacted by this decision. This is however a story that we will continue to follow closely.
We promised to keep you posted if DIsney makes any future changes to it’s health and safety policies so keep following along with us.
