Work Being Done To Partners Statue at Magic Kingdom For 50th Anniversary
Things are looking a bit different in the hub today as the Partner Statue gets ready for a 50th Anniversary makeover.
Looking at the statue this morning you can see a distinct difference between Mickey and Walt.
There is a very good reason for this.
Due to the oxidation of the bronze used to make the statue the metal turn darker.
Disney is currently working on cleaning “Partners” and as a result, those visiting in the next few weeks may notice some contrasting hues!
Disney actually placed signs around the statue notifying guests of the work.
Be on the lookout for them over the next couple of weeks.
As the sign says, Disney is carrying out routine work for Walt Disney World’s 50th Anniversary Celebration.
This involves removing the oxidation building on the statue.
This is a multi-step process as cast members strip the sculpture to its bare metal before cleaning, re-applying and coating the entire figure.

This will be done with a coat of protective polymer and wax!
The whole cleaning should be completed before October 1st when Disney World officially kicks off its 50th Anniversary Celebration.
