With Orange County COVID Cases on the Rise, Mayor Demings Says Mask Up
Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings held a press conference at 11 am this morning (July 19th) to discuss the increase in COVID-19 cases in the state.
Demings started with a briefing on the latest facts and figures which suggest that 1 in every 5 new COVID-19 cases are happening in Florida. Demings went on to say that in Orange County along there have been 517 new cases since Sunday. He went on to add that ALL of the individuals that tested positive for the virus were not vaccinated

As WESH tells us, that now brings the two-week positivity rate to 11.2%. To put this in perspective, this has tripled since earlier this month. Currently in Orange County it is estimated that 61% of residents over the age of 12 have received at least one shot.
However, it should be remembered that for heard immunity percentages should be at 70% or more.
"If you are unvaccinated, this virus is going to march right into your household," Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings says as he reiterates suggestion for all residents to wear masks, regardless of COVID-19 vaccination status. "I think the proof is staring us right in the face."

With this in mind, and as you can see from the tweet from News13, Mayor Demings is now advising that BOTH vaccinated and unvaccinated people wear face masks in crowded places. During the press conference, Demings said, “If you are not vaccinated, now is the time to do so.” He continued, “I wish there was more I could do to protect you. But you hold the key to your own destiny. You can protect yourselves by simply getting vaccinated.”
Mayor Demings is butting heads with Governor Ron DeSanits who has signed an executive order that suspends ALL emergency COVID-19 orders. During previous press conferences, Mayor Demings has criticized this move for being a partisan move that overlooks interests of community.
