Reopening of EPCOT Monorail Gives Glimpse of Construction Work
If you’ve been following along with MickeyBlog this morning you’ll know that the monorail taking guests from the Ticket and Transportation Center to EPCOT is now open!
Our MickeyBloggers Greg and Elyssa where lucky enough to be one of the first guests on board and what they saw might surprise you.
From all the way up on the elevated track they were able to get some incredible views of all of the construction work being carried out at EPCOT.
During a visit to EPCOT, guests on the ground encounter large construction walls that blend in with the surroundings making it easy to forget that this is a park undergoing a massive refurbishment.
But riding the monorail tells a different story!
From here you can see huge areas of Future World that are demolished to make way for new attractions, eateries and more.
From our vantage point we got great views of the Future World West Area.
For those unfamiliar, EPCOT is currently going through a massive transformation. Future World is being transformed into individual neighborhoods with new dining, attractions, shops and more being added to the former Innoventions area.
This area will be the NEW home of Journey of Water, Inspired by “Moana.
The attraction will be the first experience based on Moana and will give guests that chance to interact with magical, living water in a setting that is sure to inspire.
In addition to the new Moana attraction, currently under construction and slated to open this Summer is the Creations Shop. This new retail outlet will serve as a replacement for MouseGear which will be closing. It will feature a wide array of Disney merchandise and the store promises to be bright, vibrant and colorful.
Adjacent to the Creations Shop will also be a new and improved Club Cool!
Here guests will be able to sample Coca-Cola products from all over the world!
The new central area of Future World will be known as World Celebration and we’ve been told that the area will feature sweeping green spaces.
Near Spaceship Earth will be a new area known as Dreamers Point. It will offer stunning views of the World Showcase.
This area will also be home to a new statue honoring the legacy of Walt Disney.
You’ll also find a new “story fountain” that celebrates the power of iconic Disney storytelling.
Surrounding this whimsical wonderful garden area will be an array of new merchandise and dining locations.
A Guest Services cast member we spoke to today advised that the area will be getting a brand new restaurant though we don’t know that theming as of yet.
With four incredible festivals taking place at EPCOT each year, we’ve also been told that the new World Celebrations area will feature a reimagined festival center that will serve as the homebase for various events throughout the year!
Of course on the other side of Future World, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind is currently being built.
This attraction will have the distinction of being EPCOT’s first coaster.
It is being built in the building that was previously home to Ellen’s Energy Adventure with some out-of-this-world modifications of course!
The building will also house a Galaxarioum which we’re told will house a planetarium-style exhibition that will explore the Earth’s formation along with Xandar!
Once completed the Guardians Coaster is sure to thrill and will be the first storytelling coaster that rotates 360 degrees and the first Disney coaster EVER to reverse launch!
Another new arrival to the Mission: SPACE area will be a space-themed restaurant called Space 220. This eatery was originally supposed to be open already but has been set back due to a halt in operations due to the coronavirus.
When finally open, Space 220 will give guests the sensation that they are dining in space.
The floor to ceiling windows found at the restaurant will offer a celestial panorama of a space space station and will feature both daytime and nighttime views of earth from 200 miles up!
It’s all in the theming as guests to Space 220 will board a space elevator for a journey to the Centauri Space Station where viewports will give guests a real time perspective as you launch into space.
We can’t wait for all of these exciting new changes.
We suspect Disney has yet to reveal all of what you’ll find in the re-imagined Future World.
We’ll share new announcements with you as and when they come in.
In the meantime, guests visiting Disney World this fall will get to experience EPCOT’s brand new attraction Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure.
You’ll find this ride located in a newly expanded France Pavilion.
The ride is set to coincide with Disney World’s 50th Anniversary celebration and will open on October 1st.
In addition, final touches are being made to Harmonious.
This new evening spectacular will replace the currently running EPCOT Forever.
Harmonious is sure to take evening fireworks to the next level with pyrotechnics, special effects, lasers and giant fountains that will show the impact that Disney music has had on people around the world!
If you’ll be visiting EPCOT in the days and weeks ahead, consider hopping the monorail so that you can check out all of this construction for yourself.
Again, from the ground you don’t really get a property sense of the sheer scale of the work being carried out.
That’s why these pictures surprised us so much this morning!
Also, be sure to include EPCOT in your Summer/Fall plans as the EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival is currently running until Mid-November.
The Fest is a foodie lovers paradise where guests can sample a myriad of eats, sweets and adult drinks from around the World!
With the EPCOT monorail now reopened you can bet that we’ll be sharing additional construction updates.
