We’ve got some awesome animal baby news Disney friends! We’ve had a couple ofnew baby animals born at Disney’s Animal Kingdom including a Nile hippopotamus calf.
As if that wasn’t awesome enough, the next day a healthy western lowland gorilla was also born.
Check out the adorable image above of mom Azizi welcoming her infant on Tuesday. Later she introduced her newborn to the family troop. This momentous occasion could be see by those visiting the Gorilla Falls Exploration Trail. Aziz and the baby’s father Gino are celebrating their second child as big brother Cory was born back in 2014.
Now let’s move on to the loveable hippopotamus that made a splashy debut on Monday. You can find mom and baby on the Safi River on Kilimanjaro Safaris. Baby will join nine other hippos in the family. You can see the calf here nuzzling with mom and getting acquainted with the water.
Tuma and Henry are the parents of this cutie. They were actually paired as part of the Species Survival Plan which is overseen by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums.
For those unfamiliar, the Species Survival Plan ensures responsible breeding of vulnerable or endangered species. This includes Nile hippopotamuses and western lowland gorillas – to help create healthy, genetically diverse populations for years to come.
