WOW! Thatching Goes up on Polynesian Porte Cochere Roof
WOW! MickeyBlog popped by Disney’s Polyesian Village Resort today and they’ve made a TON of progress on the Porte Cochere since we last visited.
As you can see from the image above, we are so excited to share the news that the thatched roof has officially gone up over the Porte Cochere!
We’ve been following along with the progress of this new grand arrival area at the Poly.
This included the A-frame being built in the adjacent parking lot.
When construction was completed the entire frame was hosted over to the entrance via crane.
It now looks near completion with only the thatching on the left side to be completed.
Disney Polynesian Village Resort is fixing to welcome back guests starting on July 19th which is just around the corner.
Though the Moana-themed guest rooms will be ready for reopening, Disney has previously said that the monorail platform will not be open until later.
This means that Disney is still anticipating that work needs to be carried out past the official reopening date.
Guests staying at the Poly will be required to use alternate transportation to get to and from the parks including bus or boat.
But all of this upheaval will definitely be worth it in the end as the Polynesian will finally get the grand entrance that it deserves.
Aside from the external work, guests to the Great Ceremonial House will also notice some decor changes.
There will be some stylistic updates but ones that still adhere to the Mid-Century Modern feel of the property
For those staying on property at Walt Disney World but not at the Poly, you can still pop round for a visit. Many of the eateries and shops in the Great Ceremonial House from Pineapple Lanai to ‘Ohana welcoming back guests.
As for construction and return of the monorail, we’ll continue to drop by for our weekly visits!
Here’s a side view of the work being done. As you can see new concrete will need to be laid once construction is through.
The monorail platform sits just to the left in this photo and last time we visited there were still working away on updating the platform.
For those thinking about planning a Disney getaway in late 2021 or 2022 the Polynesian with all its updates is a fantastic option.
The Polynesian isn’t the only monorail resort going through a massive overhaul. Similar renovations to check-in area and guests rooms are happening over at the Contemporary Resort. This will include an Incredibles room makeover!
