Jenkins’ Rogue Squadron: “We Have To Tell a New Story…”
Jenkins says there is an incredible history to honor with Rogue Squadron…
Patty Jenkins‘ upcoming “Star Wars” film really intrigues me
Every time she speaks about the film — which is set to debut on December 22, 2022 — I am drawn farther into her vision.
Unfortunately, we don’t know a heck of a lot about the films, but Jenkins did give some new (and retooled) deets in a recent interview with the AP.
Patty Jenkins Loves Making Movies!
Mostly, the director spoke about her approach to telling big stories, and how important it is to honor the previous storytellers who created the universe into which she introduces stories.
“I am in love with all three projects on my plate right now,” said Jenkins. “I am definitely doing Rogue Squadron next, and I am excited to do Wonder Woman III… and Cleopatra is coming along great, as well.
So, we’ll see how it works out, but I may just never stop; I may just make movies back to back if they would let me; just love it.”
Honoring History With Rogue Squadron
Whenever Rogue Squadron comes up, folks who love Star Wars books bring up the Rebel pilots media that came before.
“I am looking to honor [Star Wars canon and Legends],” said Jenkins of the ‘Rogue Squadron’ novels.
I think the Michael Stackpole books and the video game and all of the Rogue Squadron books; there is an incredible history that is really important.”
“Yet, it must be brought to a new age,” added Patty. “We have to tell a new story with it.
Jenkins’ Rogue Squadron: Cooking Up a New Brew
Speaking about the new project, Jenkins actually sounds like a chef or a baker; she’s taking stock of her ingredients and getting ready to cook.
“So, you’re trying to blend the best of everything. And make it the great fighter pilot movie, which I’ve always wanted to make, as well,” she said.
It’s a big brew of things [laughs] that you’re trying to put together and still keep a very simple story.”
“It can’t be about you,” cautioned Jenkins. “But you have to be the person responsible for bringing the best of you to telling a great story. That’s what it is. I’ve had that conversation with some other people who have had great times in the Star Wars universe and really succeeded.
“And I think as long as you kind of keep that in mind, it really helps,” she added.
