Zach Riddley Shares EPCOT Hardscape Details
The 50th anniversary celebration at Walt Disney World is less than 100 days away. By far, the biggest park transformation in honor of the festivities is underway at EPCOT.
Yesterday, Imagineer Zach Riddley took to Instagram to share details of the original hardscape installed throughout the new World Celebration space behind the iconic Spaceship Earth.
“It’s a surface you don’t often pay direct attention to, but the color and texture of the ground under your feet are a primary surface for storytelling,” Riddley said in the Instagram post regarding the paving.
“Cobblestones, brick, curbing, scored concrete, patterned terrazzo (like the new flooring coming to Club Cool and Creations Shop that I’ve shared previously) all work to immerse you in a believable place,” Riddley added.
Accents of silver and whites dot the range of warm grays that characterize the pavement of new area in a nod to Space Earth.

The previoulsy mentioned Club Cool floor brings a wealth of color to the hardscape of the EPCOT space. Imaginners chose recycled soda bottles to really add a pop of bright hues to the flooring material.
The World Celebration space also houses the brand-new shopping experience at EPCOT, Creations Shop. With an emphasis on natural elements and bold pillars, the design of the new merchandise space offsets the park’s characteristic grey tones with bold reds and other primary colors.
Already, EPCOT debuted an incredible new fountain at the park entrance that harkens back to the theme park’s original futuristic look developed by Walt Disney himself.

Just Tuesday, Walt Disney World also announced that EPCOT’s largest fireworks spectacular also debuts at the park this fall, beginning on Oct. 1. HarmoniUS takes a global spin on the celebration of classic Disney songs and pushed nighttime entertainment designers to a whole new world of water, laser, and pyrotechnic technology.
