Is Salt & Straw Coming to Walt Disney World?
Salt & Straw, the ice cream shop known for its experimental flavors has a HUGE following at Downtown Disney at Disneyland Resort. That’s why we’re excited to share that the business has just teased that they’ll be opening a new location.
The ice cream shop took to social media over the weekend to give us a not-so-subtle hint about where the new shop might be!
Salt & Straw is definitely teasing some mouse ears here. Since they already have a location at Disneyland Resort our only conclusion is that they might be heading to Disney World!
Ample Hills Creamery out of New York used to be the place to go at Walt Disney World for eclectic ice cream flavors but they declared bankruptcy as a result of the COVID crisis. This resulted in the closure of their shop on Disney’s Boardwalk and the cancellation of plans for a second location at Disney Springs.
With the closure of Ample Hills there is definitely a gap in the market and some available storefronts both of which Salt & Straw could easily fill.
For those unfamiliar Salt & Straw is known for their outlandish but delicious ice cream flavors. Their current Downtown Disney menu is perfect at giving you an idea of the sort of flavors you’ll find should a shop open in Disney World. Let’s take a look:
Seasonal Flavors:
Rad Readers Series – Goosebumps: Monster Blood is Back!- Streaks of citrusy, shiny Green Goo suspend hunks of deep red Strawberry Bark.
Rad Readers Series – Twins: A Matching Pear with Twinnamon Swirl- whips of House-made Cinnamon-laced Cream Cheese throughout a sweet and fragrant Pear Ice Cream.
Rad Readers Series – Smile: Words & Pictures- Yellow and pink Almond-infused Sponge Cake and Stracciatella “pencil shavings” are strewn about Vanilla Ice Cream.
Rad Readers Series – Amulet: Fruit of the Gadoba Tree- Ever shrouded in mystery, this flavor’s quest begins with capturing the otherworldly flavors of Cacao Nibs by steeping them in Sweet Cream, then culminates with dollops the kitchen’s real life concoction of the mysterious, juicy “Gadoba” Fruit
Rad Readers Series – Geronimo Stilton & The Frosted Frozen Feast- Salted Caramel takes on an even saltier side when paired with Parmesan-steeped Cream, made rich with Mascarpone Cheesecake and crumbles of buttery Cracker Crust for one fabumouse flavor.
Classic Flavors
Sea Salt with Caramel Ribbons– This ice cream treat starts with Fleur de Sel, which is made in Guatemala from Salt pans that are famed for supplying the Mayan Empire at the height of its power. It’s then topped it off by ribboning in Hand-burned Caramel that is made in house!
Double Fold Vanilla- Made with Singing Dog Vanilla from Eugene where a percent of the proceeds back to farmers when the product sells in the US. It’s great Ice Cream, doing something great.
Chocolate Gooey Brownie- This is Chocolate Ice Cream at its simplest and most indulgent. Salt & Straw has teamed up with Valrhona to make a base that is rich, dark, fudgy, and chocolatey. In-house baked, gooey Brownies have Marshmallows baked into them to create a Brownie that treads awfully close to the point of being Fudge.
Honey Lavender- Oregon-grown Lavender petals are carefully steeped in Honey to extract that perfect floral flavor. Salt & Straw also uses Bee Local Honey in this Ice Cream which is harvested from urban hives all around Portland resulting in flavor that is unique and changing throughout the year.
Salted Malted Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough- Rich, chunky bites of chewy salty and malty Homemade Cookie Dough. Mixed into a super Vanilla-y Ice Cream and finished with licks of Malted Fudge Swirls.
Sightglass Coffee Cashew Praline- Includes Sightglass Coffee in SoMa which makes a bold, full-bodied Coffee with rich, chocolatey flavors. .The ice cram starts with a strong Cold Brew made with Sightglass’s Grostar, Utamagro Beans—an earthy, wet-hulled Coffee produced by a group of women in Sumatra—and add lightly Caramelized Cashews for a hit of texture and creamy Praline goodness that keeps the Coffee notes lingering as long as possible.
Roasted Strawberry Coconut (v, gf)- Roasting Strawberries caramelizes their sugars and makes them irresistible. Once roasted, the berries are blended with Coconut Cream and churned.
Mint Chip with Theo Chocolate (v)- Coconut and pure Oregon Mint Oil coalesce into a delicate, floral Ice Cream, freckled with Organic Chocolate from bean-to-bar pioneer Theo.
Pear and Blue Cheese- We candy Oregon bartletts to bring our their flavor, then fold in cave-aged crumbles of Rogue Creamery blue cheese (voted best in the world) for a bold thwack.
Arbequina Olive Oil- A simple combination thanks to incredible Oregon olive oil. The tropical, grassy flavors and rich, buttery texture in ice cream.
