When Obi Met Stormy: McGregor And Stormtroopers On Set
These are the troopers you’re looking for….
Why does everything come back to Jimmy Kimmel?
Well, when you work for Disney and you get some great guests. But you’ll recall a few weeks back, I noted that JImmy Kimmel interviewed Ewan McGregor.
At the time, McGregor did one tease of his short time on set.

Talking about filming on May the 4th (Star Wars Day), he said, “I got to play a very special scene on May the 4th, with someone very special in my life. And that’s all I can tell you about it, but it was great.”
Now, I think we know “who” Ewan encountered on set.

McGregor And Stormtroopers
Speaking to The Mandalorian himself, Pedro Pascal, via Variety, McGregor said:
I’ve got to be so careful. There’s no secret to when this series is being set, but I had to walk past two Stormtroopers. I realized I’ve never acted with a Stormtrooper because mine were clones, you know? It was the clone army. So I’d never seen a Stormtrooper. So I was walking past them in this scene. I turned around — and I was 6 years old again… Then I asked someone, “Were there Stormtroopers in my films? Because I don’t think I’ve seen a Stormtrooper for real before.” They were like “No, they weren’t Stormtroopers; they were clones.” And Jawas, I had another scene with a little Jawa.

I mean, don’t well wish to be immersed in Star Wars for only a few moments? That’s what Galaxy’s Edge is all about, no?
Anyway, that immersion (and regression into childhood) was palpable for McGregor, who had trace few moments like that when he filmed the “Prequel Trilogy.”

“The first film I did, I was lucky to do my scenes with the Yoda puppet,” said Ewan of The Phantom Menace. “And it was extraordinary because I acted with him. I couldn’t believe I was acting with Yoda. There’s so many people operating him, and the stage is lifted up, so they’re underneath the floor, and we were literally walking next to each other — and he’s alive.”
And now, so are the Stormtroopers.
What that bodes for Obi-Wan we can only imagine until the show hits air sometime in 2022.
