Andor: Reports Say Mendelsohn, Whitaker To Return
Gerrera and Krennic to return to Star Wars in Disney+ series….
Rogue One remains unique for its grittier, grayer approach to Star Wars, an approach appreciated by many fans in 2016.
Just watch the (greatest) trailer (ever cut) to get the gist:
And today, we hear two of the main reasons for that heightened intensity – Forest Whitaker and Ben Mendelsohn will soon return to a galaxy far, far away via Andor.
Playing Saw Gerrera and Director Krennic in Andor, Whitaker and Mendelsohn (respectively) will reprise their roles — in some capacity — as reports from around Hollywood set up a greater backstory for the anti-hero and would-be mad scientist.
Hello Saw And Orson
First, the report on Forest Whitaker from The DisInsider:
According to a recent interview between Stellan Skarsgård and the Swedish radio station Sverige Radio, it appears that Forest Whitaker’s Saw Gerrera will appear in the series. The interview was unearthed by Reddit user aprentize on the Star Wars Leaks subreddit.
In it, Skarsgård, whose been previously confirmed as a cast member, accidentally let it slip. More specifically, he said he shared a couple of “juicy scenes” with the Academy Award-winning actor.
Meanwhile, the report on Ben Mendelsohn comes out of The Direct:
According to The Direct’s sources, Rogue One Ben Mendelsohn will reprise his role as Orson Krennic in Star Wars: Andor. Mendelsohn’s rumored role in the series has yet to be confirmed by Disney and Lucasfilm.
The extent of Mendelsohn’s role in the show is currently unknown.
For fans of Mendelsohn, Whitaker, and Rogue One, this is all outstanding news.
However, just how they will pull the series together, with mostly “dead” characters receiving on-screen backstories, will be interesting to see.
We’re expecting Andor to drop on Disney+ in 2022.
Will you be among the fans ready to watch Andor? Or was Rogue One more than enough? Let us know in the comment.
