Josh Peck Talks Turner & Hooch Reboot, and Really Wanting That Tom Hanks Cameo
The 1989 film that was the Tom Hanks starring Turner & Hooch is a classic that introduced a generation of fans to one of today’s great living actors; Josh Peck spoke on the Turner & Hooch reboot, and desperately wanting that Tom Hanks cameo.
Josh Peck plays US Marshal Scott Turner- son of Tom Hanks Turner from the original film- in this Disney+ reboot. Like his father, Pecks Tuner inherits an unwanted K9 companion he grows to adore.
The former child star and social media presence spoke with Entertainment Weekly about the direction of the series.
The reboot of the series won’t rely on Peck’s ability to impersonate, which was a relief to the former Drake and Josh star. Not playing a recast version of Hank’s character allowed the actor to find his own voice within the show.
“I’m pretty good at impressions, but Hanks I just can’t breakthrough.” The actor continued, “”I’m sad to report that I can’t do it at all.”
When asked about the legacy of Hanks’ turn as the character, and how the reboot acknowledges that Peck spoke on the opportunities the show took to pay homage to the classic film, and Hank’s classic character.
“When we were preparing to start the show, there are some bold wardrobe choices that Tom Hanks has in the movie — some very, very distinct,” the actor continued, “very specific patterns on his ties and some of his clothes — and I was like, ‘Oh, it’d be fun to sort of do a little homage to that.’”
What some fans have been left wondering is if the original Scott Turner- now the father of Peck’s character- would make an appearance in the reboot of the property.
Peck, noting his immense desire for such a cameo to happen, casts doubt on Hank’s participation in the show. The actor stated, “I’ll milk every resource. Tell him he can have my trailer.”
Josh Peck’s Turner & Hooch’s 12 episode first season will debut as Disney+ exclusive this July 16th.
