Disney Imagineer Shares More Awesome Insights About EPCOT’s Transformation
Yesterday, we here at MickeyBlog shared with you a look at the new lights that have been added to Spaceship Earth as part of EPCOT’s massive re-imagining and today we’re back with more! Imagineer Zach Riddley is incredible about sharing with Disney fans all of the details surround this magical transformation.
This week he shared a trio of posts giving us some awesome insights. Let’s take a look!

First up, Disney Imagineers have been hard at work created a brand new color palette for EPCOT. As you can see from the images above, the color designers have selected just the right hues to accentuate the architectures and represent the individual neighborhoods of what was Future World.
As Zach says in his post above, one of the biggest decisions Imagineers had to make was deciding what color facades to go with for the massive Creations Shop (which is essentially the new MouseGear.)
The idea is to create something neutral and warm designed to capture the light and architectural details of these newly renovated buildings. When taking color into consideration it was also important to go with a color palette that would play off of nearby Spaceship Earth.
According to Ridley, many mock-ups of the buildings were created trying out different paints until the team felt that they had shades that were just right.

But the paint palette’s aren’t the only things being tested out just now. As you can see from the post above, Imagineer Zach Riddley shared above are of a full-scale sample of the acrylic pylons added to EPCOT’s main entrance.
The finished pylons stand an incredible 16 feet tall. The tops of each of the pylons were mocked up so that Imagineers could get the depth and placement of the logos just right. Each of the Pylons feature a 5-ring EPCOT logo of identical size. The sample pictured above weighed over 400 lbs and allowed the Imagineers to test different etchings and moldings to find just the right scale.

Over the past few weeks, we shared you updates from Zach about the floor being laid at Club Cool which sits adjacent to the Creations Shop. Imagineers, being always innovative, have come up with ways to incorporate recycled coke bottles into the floor design.
According to Ridley five unique terrazzo finishes were created for the floor. Golden Yellow, as you can se from the images above is being used as the primary accent color throughout Club Cool which draws its inspiration from none other than Mickey Mouse himself.
The golden yellow features a “tessellated pattern” which draws was inspired by nearby icon Spaceship Earth. The patterning uses state-of-the-art 3D print technology rather than the traditional brass inlays this means that there can be greater precision when recreating EPCOT’s most iconic shapes and motifs! Best of all, the floor is made up of biodegradable materials which supports Disney’s ongoing commitment to sustainable building practices.
