Are MagicBands Still Worth It?
MagicBands have become quite a matter of debate over the past few months. Are they worth the extra cost? Do you really need them? What does a MagicBand even do? Never fear, I am here to clear up any confusion and answer the question once and for all: are MagicBands even worth it?

MagicBands vs. MagicMobile
In years past, MagicBands were an absolute necessity when planning a Disney vacation. They serve as your park ticket, room key, room charging privileges, and so much more, all in one convenient and waterproof wristband. But with the rollout of MagicMobile, many Disney guests are wondering if MagicBands are a thing of the past.
MagicMobile is indeed magical. It allows you to unlock your room via the My Disney Experience app, enter the theme parks, board Magical Express, and more. So why would you want to spend $10-$25+ on a MagicBand when your phone can do the exact same things? I’m glad you asked.

First and foremost: battery life. All phones have one, and most of them aren’t so great. Sure, you could use an external battery to charge your precious device throughout the day, but what happens if that battery dies? Just saying.

Second, MagicMobile doesn’t allow for room charging privileges (at the moment, at least – that’s coming soon). This may not be a huge deal to some, but to others it’s a deal breaker. Which brings me to my third point: convenience.

MagicBands are super convenient. There’s nothing easier than tapping your wrist to the payment terminal and going on your merry way. No wallet, no problem. (Pro tip: always remember to bring your ID with you, even if you decide to ditch the wallet!) Your MagicBand is always on you so there’s no fumbling around trying to find your credit card, room key, or phone.

Picture this: it’s midnight. You just arrived back from a long, long day at Magic Kingdom. You waited forever for the bus to come and all you want to do is get you and your sleeping kids in bed. You stroll up to your room and realize your phone is in your backpack (remember: you’re carrying an exhausted kid). UGH! Now if you were wearing a MagicBand, all you’d have to do is tap the terminal on the door and you’re home free. Doesn’t that sound easier?

And finally, if nothing else, MagicBands make an excellent souvenir.
Is There Another Alternative?
MagicBands and MagicMobile are not your only options. If you’d prefer not to spend the extra money on a MagicBand, and you don’t want to rely on your phone all day, you can always pick up a complimentary Key to the World Card at the Front Desk of your Disney Resort hotel to reap all the benefits of a MagicBand.
Do you still use a MagicBand or will you be going digital on your next trip? Personally, I won’t be giving up my rotating collection of MagicBands any time soon!

Absolutely yes to Magic Bands! For ALL the reasons you stated.
It seems to me that Disney is doing what’s convenient for them and removing the magic for guests.
