Discover Your Web-Slinging Powers With The NEW Spider-Man Ride Opening on Friday
Who is ready to do some web-slinging! WEB SLINGERS: A Spider-Man Adventure will be opening this Friday (June 4th) and our excitement is reaching fever pitch.
This interactive, high-tech attraction is located in the heart of Disney California Adventure’s NEW Avengers Campus.
Thrown into the action, guests are invited to put their web-slinging skills to the test. Your mission, should you choose to accept it is to team up with Spider-Man to help wrangle the out-of-control Spider-Bots before they do some series damage to the Avengers Campus.
Guests will sling webs just like Spidey and experience what it’s like to have super powers using state-of-the-art ride technology.
Innovative Technology Interacts With Guest Movements
The ride uses a blend of physical fully dimensions sets and virtual environments to whisk guests away on this interactive escapade. During your ride you’ll encounter animation, moving props, special effects and more. Best of all, there’s no height requirements meaning that recruits of all ages can enjoy the adventure.
Brent Strong, Creative Director at Walt Disney Imagineering had this to say about the ride, “There’s not a kid who has read a comic or watched a TV show or a movie who hasn’t walked away wishing they could sling webs, and we’re going to make that happen for every single guest. The new technology can render a virtual web coming directly out of your wrist and into that world without touching an interface. It’s as close to being Spider-Man as you can get.”
The highlights include seeing Tom Holland reprise his role as Peter Parker.
Guests can also purchase new tech that will allow you to access advanced functions to enhance your ride experience including a multi-firing web option! You’ll find this new tech at WEB Suppliers and Campus Supply Pod merchandise locations.
The adrenaline-fueled fun will take place at the Worldwide Engineering Brigade or WEB which is a workshop of young engineers who specialty is come up with a new bit of awesome tech. Once inside guests will see all of the cool inventions of Peter Parker and the WEB tem.
This, of course, includes the Spider-Bots which were designed to be a robotic sidekick to Spider-Man.
However, it isn’t long before Parker’s inventions go horrible wrong. Stuck in replication mode, its pure mayhem as the bots escape the workshop.
Now guests must don your 3D glasses and test-drive another new invention the WEB Slinger to help keep the Avengers Campus safe!
So How Does It All Work?
Disney has to keep some things a secret but what we can tell you is that the headlining ride features innovative technology that recognizes body movements and gestures. Guests simply reach out with their wrists just like Spider-Man!
As the ride progresses you’ll pass by other Avengers Campus landmarks including Pym Test Kitchen, Avengers Headquarters, the Collectors Fortress (Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT and more! The further along you are on the ride, the harder it gets as the Spider-Bots continue to multiply at a rapid pace.
For those interested, the web-slinging works via cameras attached to the WEB Slinger vehicles that analyze a guests movements up to 60 times per second! It also tracks your eye position, shoulders, elbows and wrists.
The ride can identify when your trying to sling webs and its renders a 3D web to go after the Spider-Bots. How awesome is that!? Best of all, the ride (Like Toy Story Midway Mania) actually tracks how many of the Spider-Bots you end up eliminating making this ride competitive fun for the whole family!
REMINDER: There is a Virtual Queue
In order to experience WEB Slingers: A Spider-Man Adventure guests are required to join a virtual queue which you can access via the Disneyland mobile app. There will initially be NO STANDBY LINE for this attraction meaning the virtual queue is the only way to be able to ride. Queues open up at 7 am and 12 pm daily. You can find out more about how this system works at Disneyland.com.
Oh and when you’re near the WEB building, be sure an look up. We’ve been told that Spidey likes to take to the skies to show off his gravity-defying acrobatic skills! Trust me when I say that you’ll be in awe!
