Howard University Names College of Fine Arts After Chadwick Boseman
Howard University will name their College of Fine Arts after the late Chadwick Boseman. Boseman, who attended Howard University, passed away in August 2020 after a courageous and secret battle with colon cancer. He was best known for his role in Marvel’s Black Panther, among several other powerful performances.
In an official statement from the University, President Wayne A. I. Frederick announced:
“The newly reestablished College of Fine Arts will be named in honor of alumnus Chadwick Boseman, whose remarkable career as an actor, director, writer, and producer inspired millions around the world.”

Bob Iger, Executive Chairman for The Walt Disney Company, will lead fundraising efforts to build the facility and fund an endowment for the school. Iger took to Twitter on Wednesday to share the news:
Chadwick Boseman was an extraordinary, gifted, charismatic and kindhearted person, with a tireless commitment to helping others. I am honored to help @howardU raise money to build a new home for their College of Fine Arts. https://t.co/Mjs4xVL2xO

The Boseman Family also extended their gratitude to Howard University and Bob Iger:
“We would like to thank President Wayne A. I. Fredrick and the Howard University Board of Trustees for honoring our beloved Chad with the renaming of the reestablished College of Fine Arts. We would also like to thank Bob Iger for spearheading the fundraising efforts of this development.”
