Happy 7th Anniversary to the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train!
Friday, May 28th marks the 7th anniversary of the official opening of the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train. To celebrate, we collected our favorite seven fun facts about the beloved attraction.
7. Interactive Queue
We all know how Disney loves to add a little magic to their queues, but the Imagineers took the Sevens Dwarfs Mine Train to a whole other level! For starters, there’s a gem sorting station over fifteen feet long that allows Guests to sort gems into different trays. There are also 12 musical spigots shaped like different animals from the film. Each spigot represents a note on the chromatic scale and when played in sequence will create a melody from the film.
6. A Ride 20 Years in the Making
It took Imagineers 39 months to complete the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train. That’s over 3 years! But some fans will argue that it took over 20 years (wait, what!? 20 years!?) The fact of the matter is, the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train was originally proposed back in the 1990s when Disney closed 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. To make a long story short, the idea was shut down back in the day and ultimately given the green light in 2011. Who knew?
5. Rocking Carts
Each individual mine cart rocks side to side, giving you the feeling of being in an actual real-life mine cart. The intensity of the rocking varies based on the total weight in each cart, which is why you will sometimes see carts in front of you going at a faster or slower rate. It’s science.
4. Weathered Mine Carts
Each mine cart has its own unique characteristics. The ride cars were painted with multiple, very thin layers of paint, giving them a naturally aged look.
3. Video You Can Keep
Everyone knows about ride photos, but have you ever seen a ride video? If you’ve purchased Memory Maker, Disney will automatically link a video of your ride to your My Disney Experience account. This is a priceless memory for anyone with kids experiencing their first roller coaster.
2. The Vault Key
This has to be my personal favorite! Do you remember in the film how Dopey was famous for always leaving the vault key hanging right outside the vault? Well consider this an ode to Dopey! The Imagineers decided to leave a vault key hanging on a hook outside the vault in the ride. How great is that!?
1. Original Characters
Some of the dwarfs throughout the ride were originally from Snow White’s Scary Adventures, which used to sit just across the way in Fantasyland. Imagineers even used weathered glass to “hide” them so guests wouldn’t realize how old they were in a new ride. What’ll they think of next?
