BREAKING NEWS: According to State Guidelines Disneyland Can Return To Full Capacity!
Disneyland has been given the green light via new rules passed by the state of California to reopen the parks at full capacity! But will it?

There’s a very interesting piece in the OC Register that advises that Disneyland and Disney California Adventure can now end capacity limits on social distancing beginning next month as part of revised COVID-19 guidelines by the state of California.
Under the new policy theme parks would be what the state refers to a “Mega Events” which means that they could reopen at full capacity if they verified vaccines or tests of visitors.
If these guidelines are met, officials could potentially lift attendance limitations and physical distancing requirements for the theme parks when Governor Gavin Newsom’s new “Blueprint for a Safer Economy” is revealed on June 15th.

It is these blueprints that end restrictions requiring theme parks to be limited to 15% – 35% of capacity depending on what tier of the blueprint they are in.
CAPA executive director Sabrina Demayo Lockhart had this to say about the changes, “The latest state guidance gives amusement parks a path to get more people back to work and provides visitors more options for safe family fun this summer.” She continued, “The safety of amusement park guests and our staff remain a top priority. As the state economy reopens, amusement parks will update their own safe and responsible plans for operation based on state and local guidelines.“

Since Walt Disney World reopened last Summer, Disney executives have been saying that they will base reopening decisions off of local and national guidelines but their policies may differ if they believe relaxing restrictions isn’t in the best interests of the guests or cast members. But, just over the past week, we’ve seen Disney World relax restrictions considerably.
Disney World has already eliminated temperature screenings, has increased capacity, is reducing social distancing and allowing guests to no longer wear masks in outdoor spaces. So The Walt Disney Company may be more amenable to quickly loosening restricts on the West Coast. It remains to be seen.
Now it should also be noted that there is an air of speculation about all of this as the Blueprint DOES NOT specifically mention the theme parks in their guidelines. Many are assuming they fall under the blanket category of “Mega Events” which also includes sporting events, concerts, conferences and conventions.
In addition, vaccine and negative COVID tests would be required meaning that Disneyland would need to put new systems in place to meet these conditions. According to the Blueprint, these mandates will remain in effect until October 1st and will be re-evaluated beforehand.
This is an interesting development indeed though we don’t know what it means quite yet for Disneyland Resort. We’ll be keeping close attention though so keep following along with us for further updates!
