No More Face Masks At Disneyland?
With breaking news from Walt Disney World easing face mask requirements, will Disneyland be next?
When Disneyland reopened on April 30, face coverings, physical distancing, temperature checks and capacity measures were all in place. Disneyland was continuing measures implemented when they reopened Downtown Disney on July 9, 2020.
But with Walt Disney World, Trader Joe’s, Costco and other stores easing face mask restrictions, is Disneyland about to make a change?
There’s no official word yet from Disneyland on their official Twitter or Instagram feeds. The Disneyland website and app still have the same face covering rules shown on their site.
And the Disney Parks Blog has nothing to say … at the time of this story being published.
California will lift statewide mask mandate after June 15
From the Orange County Register: “We’re not wearing face coverings. We’re not restricted in any way, shape or form from doing the old things that we used to do, save for huge, large-scale indoor convention events like that, where we use our common sense,” Newsom said in an interview with Fox 11’s Elex Michaelson.
California will be lifting most other COVID-19 restrictions beginning June 15. Businesses and schools will be able to reopen fully in person with no capacity limits. Physical distancing rules will be lifted.
Basically, California wants to return to the pre-pandemic normal beginning June 15. And that now includes no face masks.
Will Disneyland remove face covering requirements on June 15?
Well, let’s look at Walt Disney World as a guide. WDW updated their mask policy on April 8 to allow you to remove your mask when taking a photo or a drink when walking – but only if you were stationary. Walt Disney World reopened on July 11 of 2020.
Now, 10 months after reopening masks are optional in outdoor areas. But Florida lifted their mask restrictions in September.
Let’s hope Disneyland doesn’t follow the lead of WDW, but instead follows the new state guidance and lifts the mask mandate AND welcomes out-of-state guests – beginning June 15!
