FDA Approves Pfizer Vaccine For Kids Ages 12 – 15
We’ve got some REALLY exciting news to share that may just have an impact on when you start planning your next Disney vacation!
The Food and Drug Administration approved today Pfizer’s request to allow the COVID-19 vaccine to be given to kids between the ages of 12 to 15. This would mean that middle school kids could get vaccinated before school starts back up in the Fall.

As a recent piece on CNBC tells us, the use of the shot on adolescents may be the next step in accelerating America’s efforts to combat the spread of COVID-19.
The Pfizer vaccination has already been approved for use by those age 16 and up. Now it’s up to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) who will be meeting on Wednesday to give the final go ahead. If approved by the CDC, vaccinations could start as early as this week.

Current FDA Commissioner Dr. Janet Woodcock said that today’s announcement brings “us closer to returning to a sense of normalcy and to ending the pandemic.” And for parents worried about the vaccine, Woodcock said that a rigorous review and clinical trials were administered before making the decision that the vaccine was safe for you in kids aged 12-16.
Pfizer previously said back in March the the vaccine was effective in a trial of 2,000 adolescents. The trial indicated that vaccine caused a robust antibody response in kids with the same side effects as adults.
This news remains consistent with Dr. Anthony Fauci’s projections that the US could start vaccinating older kids by the Fall and younger kids in early 2022.
According to the FDA Pfizer could get approval to administer the shots of kids 12 and under by later this year. Pfizer announced in a May 4th earnings call that it wil be applying for authorization for use of the vaccine with toddlers and young children in September and infants in November.

Pfizer has already started a clinical trail for use of the vaccine in children between 6 months and 11 years old. According to the piece in CNBC, we’re told hat Moderna and Johnson and Johnson are also going through similar trials for those under the age of 18. This coincides with President Biden’s push to re-open schools in the fall for in-person learning.
