BREAKING: CDC Relaxes Mask Recommendations and Other Guidelines
The day we all have been waiting for is coming closer and closer! What day might that be? When we no longer have to wear masks on on next Disney vacation!
Walt Disney World started to relax their mask mandate earlier this month by allowing all Guests to remove their mask while taking photos. Now, the CDC has just announced that those who are fully vaccinated no longer have to wear masks while walking, hiking, biking, running alone, or gathering in small groups outside.
Per the latest guidelines, here is what the CDC suggests as when you should wear and should not wear a mask for fully vaccinated vs. non-vaccinated individuals:
The CDC went on to say that they do still recommend those who are fully vaccinated wear masks in large crowds outdoors such as at concerts, stadiums, and of course Disney Parks. While we were hoping they would completely get rid of the outdoor mask recommendation they said it will be coming as more Americans are vaccinated since in large gatherings there is no way to know who is vaccinated and who is not.
While this doesn’t mean much for Disney Parks at this time, we have to remember it’s a small step in the right direction as troughout the entire pandemic, Disney has closely followed the CDC and their recommendations for keeping all Guests and Cast Members safe and healthy while developing new protocols and guidelines.
I have been saying for a while that I see Disney relaxing their mask mandate in phases at all their Parks and Resorts. We saw the first phase earlier this month when they did no longer require Guests to wear a mask while taking photos.
I think the next phase will be one of two things. The first possibility is that Disney will no longer require masks to be worn in outdoor areas of the Parks but would be required for indoor queues and attractions.
Another possibility is that Disney reduces their social distancing guidelines from the current six feet to three feet which but still enforces their mask mandate for now.
This would allow for Disney to increase their park capacity numbers which hopefully in turn would bring back some per-pandemic favorites including dining plans and FastPasses.
It’s important to keep in mind though how or if Disney would require proof that a Guest has been fully vaccinated. Would they go by a Guest’s word or would they have to actually see a Guest’s vaccination certificate.
And, then how would they be sure those who are not fully vaccinated did not removed their mask while walking around the Parks and Resorts? Regardless, it will be interesting to see how it plays out.
Earlier this year, Disney stated that they do believe social distancing and masks would be gone for good by the very beginning of 2022. However, this would all be dependent on the speed of the vaccine rollout.
Currently, about 30% of adults in the United States are considered fully vaccinated while about 43% of the American population has received at least one dose.
