Does Indiana Jones 5 Have Its Villain in Mikkelsen?
Who Will Mads Mikkelsen Play in Indy V?
So many good things came out of the stand-alone Star Wars stories, not the least of which was Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s portrayal of “L337,” Lando Calrissian’s co-pilot on the Millennium Falcon in Solo.
Not to be overlooked is Mads Mikkelsen’s star turn as “Galen Erso” (the creator of the laser system on the Death Star) in Rogue One.
Though the pair never shared a scene in Star Wars, they’ll soon unite under the Lucasfilm label thanks to Dr. Henry Jones Jr.
Mikkelsen is set to join Waller-Bridge on the cast of Indiana Jones V.
Mikkelsen Returns to Lucasfilm
Deadline had the exclusive story:
Lucasfilm has found Harrison Ford’s next co-star in Mads Mikkelsen, who is set to join the next installment. James Mangold is taking over directing reins from Steven Spielberg, who still is serving as a producer and is very much involved in various elements of the film. Kathleen Kennedy, Frank Marshall, and Simon Emanuel will join Spielberg as producers. John Williams, who has worked on every score in the 40-year-old franchise including its iconic theme, also will return as composer.
The hope is to start production this summer, with Mangold meeting with other talent for other roles in preparation for production. Plot details are still vague on what new adventure awaits Jones, as are details behind who Mikkelsen will play. The film is set to bow on July 29, 2022.
Will Mads Play The Bad Guy?
Deadline reminds readers that Mikkelsen, who played baddie Kaecilius in Marvel’s Doctor Strange, is set to replace Johnny Depp in the next Fantastic Beasts movies as Grindelwald. Television fans know Mikkelsen as Hannibal Lecter in Hannibal.
Mikkelsen’s fellow Marvel alum, Mangold, will soon have an awful lot of talent at his direction.
“I’m thrilled to be starting a new adventure, collaborating with a dream team of all-time great filmmakers,” Mangold said in a press release. “Steven, Harrison, Kathy, Frank, and John are all artistic heroes of mine. When you add Phoebe, a dazzling actor, brilliant creative voice and the chemistry she will undoubtedly bring to our set, I can’t help but feel as lucky as Indiana Jones himself.”
No doubt Mikkelsen feels pretty lucky, too.
Fortune and glory, my friends. Fortune and glory.
