Disney World Visitors Bracing For Bad Weather Today
This is one of those days Disney friends where you’ll be glad you packed those Dollar Store ponchos in your theme park bag! Orlando has had some nasty weather over the weekend that has left Disney World visitors with soggy sneakers!
According to a recent piece on ClickOrlando thunderstorm warnings previously issued for Orlando have expired but watches remain in effect. Here’s a look at some screen shots that Greg took this morning.
“It is a severe thunderstorm warning but, those involved in it: I want you to treat it like it is a tornado warning because the winds are that intense,” News 6 meteorologist Jonathan Kegges said. Kegges went on to report that there were straight-line winds with an estimated speed at 70 mphs reported around 12:45 pm.
When the theme parks experiencing high winds and lightning, visitors may experience ride closures as well as cancellations of character cavalcades and other outdoor experiences.
A severe thunderstorm watch remains in effect for most of Central Florida until 4 p.m.
Even after the storms roll through, it will remain very windy Sunday. Wind gusts at times could top 30 mph. Gusts will be higher in any thunderstorm that develops.
According to ClickOrlando, localized flooding will also be possible through Sunday afternoon as torrential rain is expected.
The weather is expected to calm down on Monday but those visiting Disney World next week should brace for storms and unpredictable weather. Be sure to back extra socks and rain ponchos!
