If this incredible story doesn’t make you feel inspired then I don’t know what will! Don Muchow’s last post to Instagram (which you can see below) was posted 20 hours ago where here was a mere 20 miles away from completing his Mouse-To-Mouse race! This saw Muchow, who is a Type 1 Diabetic, running 2,761 miles from California to Florida.
He’s expected to announce that he has completed the race any moment now at Magic Kingdom in Florida!

According to a recent piece in the OC Register, Muchow said of the feat, “I never considered quitting even once.” The 59 year old of Plano, Texas resident continued, “COVID didn’t change my mission: I want every single person with Type 1 diabetes to see that we can still dream big, despite the very real 24/7 challenges and risks involved in balancing insulin, blood glucose, food and activity.”
Muchow embarked on this incredible journey in Newport Beach on February 1, 2020 and ran 14 miles to Disneyland with the end goal of reaching Disney World in just over three months (May 4th, 2020.) However, those plans abruptly came to an end in March 2020 due to COVID-19.
As the Register tells us, Muchow will complete the run in just under 90 days. Muchow’s Mouse-to-Mouse run is part of Muchow’s larger Run Across America which the runner hopes will empower others with Type 1 diabetes.
Muchow recalls that he was actually enroute when he realized that the coronavirus had hit. He recalled being in New Mexico and realized something was up when he witnessed shoppers panic buying in the grocery store. “That’s when we started connecting the dots and realized people were panic-buying because of the pandemic,” Muchow said in an email interview.

Muchow would eventually decide to press pause on the race after making it about 1,260 miles in Tarzan, Texas. As the Register tells us, the run would resume in October but only briefly before being called off again when there was a spike in cases. Muchow said that they key to completing his race some 13 months later was staying fit in between. The runner said that her ran 1,200 miles during the break.
On March 2nd, Muchow felt the time was right to resume the race. So is he excited to finally reach Magic Kingdom? Muchow told the Register that it will be a passing visit. His original plan was to spend the whole day at Magic Kingdom but instead he will continue on to Melbourne, Florida in order to complete the Coast to Coast race by April 7th.
However, the runner did say that he hopes to double back and visit his favorite Magic Kingdom attraction once he’s rested up. “After that, I want to plan a more relaxed trip to the Magic Kingdom,” Muchow said via email. “We always ride It’s A Small World and we’re looking forward to that.”
