Man Arrested at Disney Springs After Refusing Temp Check
Kelly Sills, 47 from Baton Rouge, Louisiana was arrested on February 13th for refusing to do a temperature check to enter Disney Springs. According to video footage by the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, Sills was confronted outside of the Boathouse restaurant after he skipped the temp screening tent, refused to go back, and then wouldn’t leave the property when asked by both Disney and the sheriff’s office.
Sills complained that he paid $15,000 for a Disney vacation that was disrupted due to the arrest. He pleads not guilty on a trespassing charge.
He quickly changed his mind while he was being escorted out. “Will you take my temperature before you kick me out, please?” Sills asked as he was led away in handcuffs.
“They’ll do that in jail, sir,” a deputy appeared to say.
“Well, that’s good,” Sills said.
The footage shows a Disney Springs security manager saying in a frustrated tone, “He’s going to have to go for the day” after Sills argued with him.
“For what reason?” Sills said, standing in place and looking at his phone.
“Sir, it’s private property,” a deputy said.
“You’re officially being trespassed,” another official said.
“I spent $15,000,” Sills said as he was handcuffed.
“All you had to do was get temperature checked. That’s it!” one person can be heard saying.
“I paid $15,000. You can’t trespass me for paying $15,000,” said Sills. He soon began cooperating with the sheriff’s deputies. “If I take $15,000 from you, I can’t kick you out… Bring me to jail for $15,000 grand, I’m fine… In front of my kids, too, at Disney World.”
Sills was trespassed from all Disney property, the arrest report said.
Sills was one of a handful of men who were arrested earlier this year for an incident that took place at Disney’s Contemporary Resort. One of the men was accused of spitting on a Disney World Security Guard who asked him to wear a face mask.
It should be noted that even though a majority of guests abide by Disney World’s face mask policy without issue, there have been a few arrests in recent weeks related to the Resort’s health and safety procedures.
