Disney Plus Price Hike Coming Soon
So, I’m looking at a $6.99 price point for Disney+ and see a bargain.
And, when I look at a $7.99 price point, I still see a pretty good value. The annual $69.99 to $79.99 doesn’t bug me either.
That said, I am pleased that my cable provider bundles it, and we don’t need to think about it.
Disney+ raises its price…
But you know who was thinking about it? Todd Spangler of Variety, who explained:
It’s the first time the company is increasing rates for U.S. customers since Disney Plus debuted in November 2019.
In addition, the three-way bundle that includes Disney Plus, Hulu with ads, and ESPN Plus (available only in the U.S.) is increasing to $13.99 per month, also up a dollar.
The Mouse House most recently reported topping 100 million subscribers for Disney Plus earlier this month. About 30% of global Disney Plus subscribers have come through Disney Plus Hotstar in India and Indonesia, which has a much lower average price point than other regions.
100 Million Subscriptions And Plussing
MickeyBlog.com posted about the 100 million subs for Disney Plus earlier this year.
Disney+ Surpasses 100 Million Subscribers, More Original Content Promised
Variety added:
[One] big reason for Disney Plus’ meteoric takeoff was its relatively low $6.99/month price point. To that end, even with the higher $7.99 monthly price, Disney Plus remains substantially less than competing services, including Netflix ($13.99 per month for the standard plan) and WarnerMedia’s HBO Max ($14.99 per month).

Meanwhile, and earlier this week, Disney announced three big movies coming to streaming later this year:
Following the successful release of Raya and the Last Dragon, the highly anticipated live-action film Cruella and Marvel Studios’ long-awaited Black Widow will launch simultaneously in theaters and on Disney+ with Premier Access in most Disney+ markets on Friday, May 28, and on Friday, July 9, respectively… Similar to the launch of Disney and Pixar’s Academy Award®-nominated Soul that delighted Disney+ subscribers during the holidays, Disney and Pixar’s Luca will stream directly in homes worldwide exclusively on Disney+ beginning Friday, June 18, as a special offering to kick off the summer season.
Of course, Black Widow and Cruella will cost subscribers extra. But for the privilege of watching first-run Marvel or Disney/Pixar flix in my jammies, I will pay. And so will a whole bunch of other peeps, too.
So, are you a Disney+ subscriber? Will you pay the price increase? Let us know in the comments below…
