Local Union Calls for Walt Disney World Cast Members To Receive COVID Vaccine
As the country works on getting COVID-19 vaccines distributed as quickly and efficiently as possible in “tiered phases”, The Unite Here Local 362 Union that represents thousands of Walt Disney World Cast Members is requesting that the state make vaccinating Cast Members and those in the hospitality industry a top priority.
During an interview with Lauren Seabrook of WFTV, the President of Unite Here Local 362 Union, Eric Clinton, states, “There is something like over 30,000 service workers back at work in the theme parks and hotels.” He believes that vaccination these Walt Disney World Cast Members and other service workers in the Orlando area would boost the economy for several reasons.

One of the top reasons Clinton sees as a plus to allow Cast Members to receive the COVID-19 vaccine is that Disney would be able to advertise to potential visitors that their Cast Members are vaccinated making everyone more comfortable. In addition, he believes it is simply the right thing to do for workers who have been risking their lives at work during the pandemic.
Currently, the Governor of Florida, Ron DeSantis, has stated he has no intention at this time to change the guidelines on the state’s tiered vaccination strategy based on one’s profession. However, the Mayor of Orange County, Jerry Demings, has made a special request to allow certain occupations receive their COVID-19 vaccines.

Mayor Demings was asked if Cast Members and others who are in the hospitality industry would be allowed an exemption to receive their COVID-19 vaccine. He responded that the next exemptions will be based on the amount of vaccines are received in the Orlando/Orange County area.
