Bob Iger To Be Honored at Academy Museum of Motion Pictures September Gala
We’ve got some exciting news regarding legendary Disney CEO Bob Iger! According to a recent piece in The Hollywood Reporter, the outgoing Disney Chair will be honored during an awards ceremony at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures.

Earlier this week it was announced that the Academy will honor Sophia Loren, filmmaker Haile Gerima during the opening gala that will take place on September 25th and will feature a meal prepared by Wolfgang Puck.
In addition, Anette Bening, Tom Hanks and Bob Iger will be honored. All three played an integral role in generating the nearly $388 million in a campaign to fund the museum.
As part of it’s remit, each year the museum is committing to presenting two honors: the Visionary Award which will pay tribute to an artist to scholar whose body of work has advanced the art of cinema and a Vantage Award honoring an artist or scholar who has helped contextualize and challenge dominant narratives around cinema.
“The Academy Museum is committed to celebrating and championing the work of film artists, scholars and professionals — through our exhibitions, screenings, programs, collection and now, through our annual gala,” the museum’s director and president Bill Kramer said. “It is such an honor to be able to recognize both Haile Gerima and Sophia Loren for their impactful and inspirational artistry and to acknowledge the incredible work of our Campaign Committee. We are deeply grateful to our Gala Co-Chairs and our sponsors for their extraordinary leadership and support of this inaugural event.”
We also know that the gala is being co-chaired by Jason Blum & Ryan Murphy along with Ava DuVernay who has been collaborating with the museum on the Regeneration: Black Cinema exhibition (1898-1971) which is slated for 2022.
