Marvel Avengers Campus Won’t Be Debuting At The Time That Disneyland Resort Reopens
The excitement is starting to reach fever pitch over the news that Disneyland Resort could start to reopen various aspects of its ride and attractions as soon as the end of next month. However, anxious Marvel fans hoping to experience the Avengers Campus at Disney California Adventure will sadly need to wait a bit longer.
During this afternoon’s shareholders meeting, Disney CEO Bob Chapek went on record as saying that the attraction will open later in 2021. “At Disneyland Resort, the highly anticipated new Marvel-themed land Avengers Campus is currently scheduled to open later this year at Disney California Adventure,” Chapek said. “Guests will be able to sling webs like Spider-Man and see him soar through the air right before their eyes.”
Disneyland announced back in 2020 that the Avengers Campus would open on July 18th but a few days later Disneyland Resort theme parks closed due to COVID-19 pushing back all of Disney’s projects.
As the OC Register points out, the first phase of the Avengers Campus will be the new Spider-Man attraction along with Ant-Man and the Wasp Restaurant, a rooftop stunt show and a Doctor Strange show. The area is being designed to tie in seamlessly with the existing Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout.
As phase 2 of the campus, Disney has already teased that fans can expect another Avengers e-ticket attraction.
As the Register points out, though fans held out hope that the Avengers Campus might reopen with the theme parks, this theory never really made a lot of sense. If Disney’s point is to drive attendance with a new attraction, they’re unlikely to want to do so at a time when they are dealing with state-mandated capacity limitations.
We’ve shared aerial photos of the Avengers campus in the past which shows that this area of the park is nearly completed. This backstory for the campus is that it will serve as a training ground for new superhero recruits.
The Web-Slingers attraction will use gesture-recognition technology to track body and eye movements of passengers allowing them to sling virtual webs.
We also know that Doctor Strange will have his own outdoor show set on the Sanctum Sanctorum that will use projects and other special effects.
And lastly, Pym Test Kitchen will have an Ant-Man theme and will serve food that is either teeny tiny or very big! The area will also feature an outdoor cocktail bar.
We cannot wait for more news on this awesome new area of California Adventure. Readers are encouraged to keep following along with us here at MickeyBlog for further news and updates!
