Imagineer Shares New Images Of Spaceship Earth’s Nighttime Illumination
No sooner had we posted our article about the NEW flags flying high over EPCOT then Imagineer Zach Riddley took to Instagram to absolutely dazzle us with a look at Spaceship Earth’s new nighttime light show.
This stunning nighttime view is part of Disney World’s massive re-imagining of EPCOT which while be changing Future World, including the area surrounding Spaceship Earth into new neighborhoods. The area near the main entrance to the park now features a new fountain, pylons, flags and will soon feature a stunning statue of Walt!

Doesn’t it look simply stunning!? There is a light ribbon that spans nearly four football fields long. This ribbon has been present since opening day however, it was originally lit with solid colored tubes. Now, its been swapped out with energy efficient programmable LED lighting with nearly 3,000 individually controlled points of light that blend together to create color gradients.
As Zach points out, these color gradients have always been an important aesthetic at EPCOT. This has included everything from the lighting at Spaceship Earth to the bands of color on the Energy Pavilion. That is something that will continue as the park is reimagined with colors representing World Nature, World Discovery and World Celebration. As you can see from the awesome images, all off these colors are hinted at in the lighting design you’ll find in the main entrance plaza!
Best of all, for the first time EVER, the plaza and Spaceship earth will boast a unified lighting theme. The ribbon lights connection with the main plaza, fountain, and Spaceship Earth so that they can ALL compliment each other!
