The Mandalorian Beats Out WandaVision in Latest Viewership Numbers
Parrot Analytics recently released chart of the viewership numbers for January’s biggest streaming titles shows an interesting development for Disney+ original series.
They have a very interesting take on where the streaming service is as a whole, and where their biggest titles, stand in relation to the landscape of stream exclusive series.
In the chart, WandaVision stands as the third series in TV demand vs. Market Average. The newly released and highly acclaimed Marvel series sits just below Netflix’s Cobra Kai, and fellow Disney+ title The Mandalorian.
The metric used to make the chart tracks the specific market interest in a show relative to the average television program. For example, WandaVision’s third-ranking displays it holds 60 times more demand than your average television series.
For comparison, The Mandalorian, which sits one spot ahead, sports 63.1 times more demand.
When considering the size of each sample, and the number of households viewing the streamed programs, one can conclude that the mere 3 point difference is quite vast.
The results bode well for Disney+ and specifically their exclusive titles. Star Wars, and the Marvel Cinematic Universe, have both invested heavily in their most recent plunge into the world of streaming.
These beloved franchises have exceptional viewership demand because of the beloved status of their parent films, and the production value that goes into developing them.
There doesn’t seem to be a drop in production value when comparing the films to the series, with consistently high standards speaking to Disney’s well-deserved spot on a list of the most demanded series.
WandaVision stars MCU veterans Paul Bettany and Elizabeth Olsen as super-powered Wanda Maximoff and her robotic life partner Vision, respectively. Fans can catch all-new episodes of the Marvel series every Friday during the show’s seven-episode first season.
Expected to join the two Disney+ exclusive shows on the list of highest demand will be Marvel’s second streaming exclusive series, Falcon and the Winter Soldier; a show whose super bowl trailer shattered most viewership records, including the most viewed trailer for a streaming show.
Fans can catch the adventures of Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes in Disney+ newest live-action series in early March.
