Epic: Once Upon A Time Creators Return To ABC
The New Show Is NOT Based In The Once Upon A Time Universe…
From 2011 to 2018, ABC’s Once Upon a Time dominated Disney TV.
Because of its real-world depictions of many fairy tale characters, and Disney-princess allusions, Once Upon a Time was actually one of the first of Disney’s live-action reboots.
And now, its creators will (most likely) be back in primetime.
ABC on Friday placed a pilot order for Epic, a one-hour drama that will reinvent classic Disney fairytales for a new audience. Once Upon a Time scribe, Brigitte Hales penned the script and will serve as an EP alongside Horowitz and Kitsis…
The Epic project, first announced in December 2019, was initially described as “a romantic anthology series set in the fairytale universe of Disney and taking place in a Disney-like Enchanted Forest.” Sources previously told TVLine that the potential series — which is not set in the Once Upon a Time universe — will present all-new characters and “new spins on the classic archetypes.”
The potential series marks a homecoming for Kitsis and Horowitz who started their careers on ABC’s Lost and became some of the studio’s most important producers after launching Once Upon a Time. The fairy tale drama ran for seven seasons and became a global phenomenon and cash-cow for Disney.
Before Once Upon a Time, Lost anchored ABC’s primetime lineup from 2004 to 2010.
