Could We Now Know the Setting Of The Next Indiana Jones Film?
James Mangold, who is slated to helm the next Indiana Jones film may have given fans a hint as to when the next film in the franchise will be set. Mangold recently took to Twitter to share his appreciation for 60’s avant-garde rock band The Velvet Underground who sprung up in the New York City underground of the1960s.
Let’s take a look at the tweet here:
The Velvet Underground are fucking great.
That's it. That's my tweet.(Note — I'm mentally living in 60's NYC right now cause that's where all the movies I'm working on take place.)
— Mangold (@mang0ld) January 22, 2021
As you can see from the tweet above, other than his praise for the Lou Reed fronted band, Mangold reveals that he’s mentally living in 60s NYC because that’s the setting of several projects he is working on! Could Indiana Jones be one of them? Now its worth pointing out that Indy is known for his globetrotting adventures, we can probably expect the archeologist to only spend a bit of time in New York City but placing the film in the 60s gives us some insights into the overall aesthetic we can expect from the film.
It’s not too much of a stretch given that 2008’s Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull took place in 1957.
Though Lucasfilm & Disney are remaining pretty tight-lipped about the film, we can confirm that no other actor will be filling Indy’s shoes. Longtime producer Frank Marshall said that there’s only one Indiana Jones and that’s Harrison Ford. Last month, Frank Marshall spoke to Den of Geek where he said, “What I’m excited about with Jim [Mangold] is a great story. I think you see that in his movies like Ford Vs Ferrari. It’s all about characters and telling a good story. So I’m excited to see what he comes up with. I haven’t seen (the script) yet so I don’t know what to tell you.”
We do know that Indiana Jones 5 is expected to be released in theaters on July 29, 2022. We expect for more exciting details to be revealed as we move through 2021! Readers are encouraged to keep following along with us for further news and updates!
