Billy Crystal Gives Update On Monsters Inc Series for Disney+
From the moment we heart the Disney+ is working on a Monsters Inc. series we have been BEYOND excited. The working title for the project is called Monsters at Work and we do know that both Billy Crystal and John Goodman will be reprising the roles of Mike and Sulley.
Collider magazine recent interviewed Billy Crystal where he shed some light at exactly where production stands with the latest Monsters Inc. project.
Crystal told Collider, “It’s a series. John Goodman and I are Sully and Mike. The show, time-wise, starts six months after ‘Monsters, Inc.’ ended. So now, we’re on the Laugh Floor. We’ve created all of the new, young, great characters with some great voice actors, and John and I are reprising our parts. I tell ya, it’s [been] 20 years [since the release of ‘Monsters, Inc.’] and that movie looked amazing 20 years ago. It’s coming up to the 20th anniversary, I believe in September It’s fantastic looking, it’s hilarious, and we’re having a lot of fun doing it.”
So there’s so much awesome news to unpack in his statement about the project! Now we officially know that it takes place on the Laugh Floor and that the events take place 6 months after the original Monsters Inc. Collider also tells us that Ben Feldman, Kelly Marie Tran, Alanna Ubach, Jennifer Tilly, John Ratzenberger and Bob Peterson will be involved in the project.
The show will also be created and executive produced by Roberts Gannaway. It follows a young monster Tylor Tuskmon (voiced by Feldman) who is a mechanic at Monsters Inc. He dreams of working his way up the factory Laugh Floor to become as iconic as Mike and Sully.
Crystal went on to share a few more new details with Collider that he’s been doing a lot of the voice over work from home, “Yeah, we’ve done a bunch [of episodes]. We’ve been on a break because of the pandemic. But some I was able to do at home and some I was able to do in a very deserted studio out in Burbank. To be the only one on the lot was a little weird. But yeah, we’re progressing. I don’t know when they’re gonna start [being released] but I promise you they’re really good.”
Crystal also revealed how long the episodes are in the interview saying “Some are full length. Some are half-hour. It’s hard to tell when you’re just reading. But they’re full scripts and it’s a continuing story, so I think it’s really gonna be fun.”
Monsters at Work is expected to premiere on Disney+ in 2021. Readers are encouraged to keep following along with us here at MickeyBlog for further DIsney+ news and updates!
