Luke Evans Will Once Again Play a Villain
Luke Evans is no stranger to the realm of the Disney villain. He played the large and extra egotistical, Gaston, in the live-action reboot of “Beauty and the Beast”. And now, he is slated to play another dark Disney villain. This time in “Pinocchio”.
Pinocchio
Disney’s has several live-action films in the works and one is a reboot of one of Disney’s early classics, “Pinocchio“. The film was announced on Investor Day last December and is supposed to be released directly to the streaming platform Disney+. Ewan McGregor will voice Jiminy Cricket and Tom Hanks will play the fatherly Gepetto. Robert Zemeckis will direct, and Luke Evans will play the villain.
Disney live-action films have done well in the past. They include “Cinderella”, “The Lion King” and “Aladdin”. In the works are “The Little Mermaid” and “Cruella” and “Pinocchio”.
The Villain
The villain in question is one that is not as well-known as Gaston, but just as scary. “The Coachman” takes children to Pleasure Island on his ferry and turns them into donkeys. As donkeys they are sold into servitude. “The Coachman” is both menacing and sinister in his disregard for the innocence of childhood.
Disney+
The Disney+ streaming platform has been on fire. Subscriptions were at over 73 million at the beginning of October and growing. The success of shows like “The Mandalorian” and the newest hit “WandaVision” will only help secure Disney+ as one of the top streaming platforms.
The release of the live-action “Mulan” paved the way for more live-action Disney films to drop directly to Disney+. Fans have alot to look forward to in the next months and year including a full Marvel line-up, Star Wars shows and more live-action full length films including “Pinocchio”. Disney fans will look forward to Evan’s portrayal of the villain, “The Coachman”.
