The WandaVision: Episode 1 Original Soundtrack and WandaVision: Episode 2 Original Soundtrack, featuring the instrumental scores from the latest installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe are now available for you to listen to!
The digital soundtracks features a score by Christopher Beck (Marvel’s Ant-Man and the Wasp) with additional original songs by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez (Frozen.) The famous Frozen songwriting duo been original songs for several of the episodes in WandaVision perfectly capturing the vibes of the distinct sitcom eras from 1950s through 2000s.
All of the scores and tracks on Wandavision were produced by Beck who had this to say of the project, “For each era, the music is a loving homage to the sitcom scores typical of the time period. This involved not only the instrumentation, but also the composition style.”
Each of the scores were designed to represent the era presented in the episode. For instance early episodes feature small orchestral ensembles while later episodes really more heavily on the sounds of rock and pop. To really convey that sense of authenticity Beck even utilized period-specific recording and mixing techniques.
Anderson-Lopez also produced each song for the series. The theme for the first episode said Anderson-Lopez was created to evoke that sense of the dawn of television. “We wanted to have an optimistic group of voices singing jazzily (though not too jazzily!) about the love between these two — and the main question of the first episode, whether two Avengers in love can pass for normal in a typical American suburb,” she said.
The second episode was described by Lopez as being more sultry. He said, “We decided to put lots of raunchy trombones commenting,” he said, “and in one part we also used my favorite ’60s keyboard sound, the RMI Rock-si-chord—a sort of electric organ harpsichord sound.”
