WandaVision Sees Huge Opening Weekend
The MCU’s highly anticipated leap into the world of television was met with solid viewership as the numbers are slowly coming in. WandaVision has debut following a long road of anxious excitement from fans and critics alike.
Samba TV, the leader in recording viewership for streaming service content, recorded WandaVision’s debut weekend to have been viewed by 1.6 million households from January 15th-18th.
The Disney+ streamed series saw about 1.5 million of those households located in the US for the first episodes viewing; with about 1.2 million American households returning for the second episode.
Although the numbers are certainly not disappointing, and will undoubtedly grow as it maintains a presence on the streaming service, the response can be viewed as a solid reception for the series.
WandaVision’s 655,000 household opening day can be compared to Disney’s most successful Disney+ debut; The Mandalorian’s season 2 premiere which brought in a remarkable 1.04 million households its opening day alone.
The sought out and anticipated series may not have reached The Mandalorian level viewership yet, but there is a lot of hope in that the adventures of Wanda Maximoff and Vision can eventually bringing in that level of viewership.
Starring MCU veterans Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany, the show will continue weekly for its 9 episode first season. A good reception from critics and fans alike should bring more hype, and more eyes, to the mysterious story of Marvel’s most enigmatic super couple.
