Patty Jenkins’ Rogue Squadron: Who’s Helping Write?
Let the Rogue Squadron Speculation Begin – Who Is Jenkins’ Writing Partner?
Exciting times, my friends. Exciting times.
Firstly, we learn that Patty Jenkins will be the director of the upcoming Rogue Squadron movie.
Secondly, we learn why Jenkins wanted to do the film – her dad:

“He” Is Here…
And thirdly, i.e. now, Jenkins is teasing her collaborator in the writer’s room.
I want him to have his own proper announcement, so I’m going to wait until that comes out, but we’re very far into the, we’re finishing the treatment basically, which is pretty big. So it ends up being like where you’re fairly close to a screen, a well-along screenplay by the time I’m done with the treatment in my process. So yeah, we’ve been working on it for a while. It’s going great. I’m super excited about it.
Hmmmmm.
Who is “he.”
Who is it?
Well, Dirk Libbey made a pretty good point over on CinemaBlend.com:
[It’s] entirely speculation, but the fact that the name is being intentionally held back is an indication that Disney and Lucasfilm think they could get some promotional mileage out of the announcement… [and] there is likely a desire to inspire confidence in the future of Star Wars on the big screen, so this movie will probably be managed quite closely.
Um, yeah. I agree.
Now, when I read this the first time, two names popped into my head:
The first, Rian Johnson. I loved The Last Jedi and he’s a heck of a writer who already (ostensibly) had Star Wars films on his plate. But, and it’s a big but; despite the auteur rep of TLJ – well, talk about divisive! And, Johnson probably wants to buy the groceries and cook the meal.
A Marvelous Pairing?
What about this, True Believers?
You heard it here first.
My out-of-left-field guess: Kevin Feige.
Why? Call it a hunch. A gut call.
A “I think Kathleen Kennedy is pretty smart and if you have Patty Jenkins and an opportunity to start a new slate of films, and you have already stated Feige is already developing a Star Wars movie…” kinda call.
If I’m right, great. I’ll buy myself a ronto wrap. If I’m wrong, I’ll be surprised (and I am pretty sure whomever it is will be great).
But it sure is fun to speculate. No? Can’t wait for this move.
