Photos Surface Showing An Eerily Empty Disneyland
We’ve got some positively stunning images to share with you from photographer Star Foreman (@starforeman). These images appeared in a recent piece on LA Magazine a showing just how empty Disneyland Resort is. If you’ve been following along with MickeyBlog then you know that Disneyland theme parks have remained shuttered since March due to COVID-19
Though Disney hoped to reopen both Disneyland and Disney California Adventure during the Summer, government restrictions have meant that the parks and three Disney onsite resorts have remained closed throughout 2020.
As of going to print, Downtown Disney has reopened for shopping and takeaway dining only and Buena Vista Street at Disney California Adventure has also reopened for shopping and dining only. Attractions and table service dining locations remain closed.
With this in mind, many of the images shared by Foreman show a very empty Disney California Adventure. The images perfectly capture the once bustling Disneyland thoroughfares that are now completely empty.
The decision to open “retail heavy” areas Disneyland Resort has meant that some cast members were able to return to work. However, with few exceptions, these areas have remained relatively empty due to the continued increase in COVID-19 cases in Southern California.
Disneyland has also been criticized for their decision to charge $10 to park at Downtown Disney simply to shop. Many argue that this is a deterrent to those who might want to visit the “Happiest Place on Earth.”
For those that do opt to visit Disneyland Resort on weekdays will probably have an experience similar to those represented in the pictures. Many of Forman’s images feature deserted streets and shops with the odd cast member visable.
This black and white image of a completely deserted Disneyland has an ominous look. Thankfully things are a bit more jovial inside with the news that Cast Members have still lit a Christmas tree in Walt’s apartment in honor of Disneyland’s creator.
We definitely recommend that you check out more of Star Foreman’s photographs over at LA Magazine. There are over 53 quiet and serene images of a once bustling park. You’ll find them here. As of going to print there is no potential reopening date for Disneyland or Disney California Adventure. With COVID cases in California at an all-time high, it may be a while before are once again able to stroll down Disneyland’s bustling boulevards.
