Disney Announces Blizzard Beach Re-Opening
This is exciting news! Walt Disney World has announced that Disney’s Blizzard Beach will be the water park that is re-opening on March 7, 2021. Back in September we brought you the news that Disney would be reopen one of the two Disney water parks on this date but did not specify which one. Now we know! This will be Blizzard Beach’s 25th season being open and we here at MickeyBlog couldn’t be happier.
In honor of this fantastic news I’m bringing you the seven fun facts you may not have known about Disney’s wintry-themed water park.
1.Disney’s Blizzard Beach has a special backstory
Who else but Disney would dream up a ski resort in Florida? The legend goes that a massive snowstorm in Florida prompted local opportunists to build a ski resort. But of course these short sided investors didn’t realize that Florida’s climate would return to normal temperatures and the snow melted. Snow turned to water and Blizzard Beach was born!
2. You can find one of the fastest waterslides in the world here
Summit Plummet is a 120-foot-tall waterslide with a near-vertical drop which makes it the ultimate water park thrill ride. What’s crazier is that guests accelerate up to 65 mph on the slide, making it one of the fastest attractions at Walt Disney World.
3. Tasty Treats are in no short supply
Ice Cream on a hot summer day… it just makes sense. From churros to Mickey ice cream bars, you can discover many of your favorite snacks at the Disney Water Parks. There are plenty of menu options to choose from, including loaded nachos pictured above from Frostbite Freddy’s Frozen Freshments.
4. Blizzard Beach is home to the first chairlift in Florida
Disney is always at the forefront of innovation so it’s no surprise that this colorful chairlift, built to ferry guests to the top of Mount Gushmore, was the first of its kind in the state of Florida. The chairlift offers a scenic bird’s-eye view of Blizzard Beach and easy access to Summit Plummet, Slush Gusher and Teamboat Springs.
5. Blizzard Beach-inspired cocktails are serve at a full-service beach bar
I don’t know about you but when I’m on vacation an adult beverage is a must! The Polar Pub serves as Blizzard Beach’s own full-service beach bar and offers specialty cocktails inspired by the park’s stories including the Piña CoLAVA and the Blue Blizzard Margarita.
6. Cross Country Creek is one of the longest lazy rivers in the country
When Disney says “lazy river” you know it’s going to be nice and relaxing. At 3,000 feet, Cross Country Creek ranks among the longest lazy rivers in the U.S.A. It takes between 20 and 30 minutes to complete one journey around the waterway!
7. Teamboat Springs is one of the longest family whitewater raft ride in the world!
Families who raft together stay together and that is easily accomplished riding Teamboat Springs at Blizzard Beach. Along the winding rapids of Teamboat Springs, guests encounter remnants of the fabled snowstorm in the form of snowshoes, snow shovels, melting icicles and a snow mobile.
