Disneyland Scraps Plans To Reopen Grand Californian Amid Tighter COVID-19 Restrictions
If you were following along with MickeyBlog this week you’ll know that the State of California is tightening its social distancing restrictions as COVID-19 cases continue to soar in the country. As a result Disney’s Grand Californian at Disneyland Resort has walked back plans to reopen the resort to Disney Vacation Club members this Holiday Season.
As we previously reported, the planned reopening of the DVC villas was expected to go into effect tomorrow (December 6th) and has now been delayed according to a recent report in the Orange County Register.
A statement on the DVC website now reads, “Disney Vacation Club is delaying the reopening of The Villas at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa as we further review the new regional stay at home order announced by the State of California,”
The reopening of the DVC villas at the Grand Californian was a trial run of sorts with the Disneyland Hotel and Paradise Pier Hotel continuing to remain closed. In now looks as if all three of Disneyland’s onsite resorts will remain closed indefinitely.
The theme parks and resorts have been shuttered since mid-March and are unlikely now to reopen until some point in 2021 under new health and safety reopening guidelines put forward by the state.
Disney’s Downtown Disney Shopping District has been reopen since July and shopping and dining was recently extended to Buena Vista Street in Disney California Adventure. However, many insiders are speculating that we may see closures at Disneyland’s downtown shopping district as a result of a new stay-at-home order from the state of California.
As part of Newsom’s new order, which is expected to officially go into effect this week, hotels will need to close and restaurants will no long be able to offer dining even if its al fresco. Though retail outlets will remain open it can only be open to 20% capacity.
