Has Disney Found Its Lilo For Live Action ‘Lilo & Stitch?’
If you’ve been following along with MickeyBlog you’ll know that earlier this week we reported on a rumor that Crazy Rich Asians director Jon M. Chu has signed on to direct Disney’s live-action adaptation of the much-loved animated film Lilo and Stitch.
It now looks like the project continues to gain momentum with a rumor from DisInsider that insiders have said that the production may have found its Lilo.
According to DisInsider, the studios is casting Siena Agudong, a 16-year-old actress to play Lilo in the film. If this rumor proves to be true, it marks an interesting change for the film as Siena is a teenager whereas Lilo in the film was only 6 years old.
This will not be Siena’s first time working on a Disney project. You can see an image of her above in her role as Reina in 2014’s Upside Down Magic.
As we previously reported here at MickeyBlog, Mike Van Waes is currently working on a draft of the project which has been greenlit but is still in the early stages of development. It is also expected that the movie will go straight to Disney’s streaming network Disney+. It has also been reported that Christ Sanders is expected to return to voice the mischievous yet loveable Stitch.
For those unfamiliar with the original film, it follows a lonely human girl named Lilo and a dog-like alien named Stitch. Despite the fact that Stitch is engineered for destruction, the duo form an unlikely bond.
Though DisInsider was clear that the studio has yet to confirm the casting for the film, here at MickeyBlog we did notice that the project is now listed on Siena’s IMBD page here.
As we previously mentioned, Lilo and Stitch will be produced by Dan Lin and Jonathan Erlich who were also the producers behind the massively successful Aladdin. The duo are also apparently producing an Inspector Gadget film for DIsney+ as well as a new reboot of the Haunted Mansion.
The original Lilo & Stitch animated film was released in 2002. It went on to gross $273 million worldwide at the box office. Readers are encouraged to keep following along with MickeyBlog for further news and updates!
