No Digital Double For Chadwick Boseman In MCU
Black Panther’s Boseman will not return to Marvel’s Cinematic Universe digitally
Firstly, some words just make sense, no matter the language.
Recently, Marvel Studios Executive Vice President Victoria Alonso — asked by a Spanish-language publication whether Marvel would recreate Chadwick Boseman digitally in any future MCU films — replied:
Chadwick hay uno solo, y no está con nosotros. Nuestro rey, lamentablemente, ha muerto en la vida real, no solamente en la ficción, y nos estamos tomando un tiempito para ver cómo nosotros retomamos la historia y qué es lo que hacemos para honrar este capítulo de lo que nos ha pasado que fue tan inesperado, tan doloroso, tan terrible, la verdad.

Thankfully, Buzzfeed’s Larry Fitzmaurice tracked this down and gave us the lowdown:
In an interview with Clarin, Marvel Studios… Alonso replied to a question about digitally recreating Boseman’s likeness for the next Black Panther film: “No. There’s only one Chadwick and he’s not with us.”
“Our king, unfortunately, has died in real life, not just in fiction, and we are taking time to see how we continue the story and what we do to honor this chapter of what has happened to us that was so unexpected, so painful, so terrible, really.”
Black Panther Put On Hold

On Thursday, Sept. 24, 2020, a beautiful piece of art entitled, “King Chad” was put on display in the Downtown Disney District to pay tribute to ‘Black Panther’ star, Chadwick Boseman. Artist Nikkolas Smith, who is also a former Disney Imagineer, was among the first to see his artwork featured in the District. This art installation will be on display in Downtown Disney through Dec. 31, 2020.
Secondly, don’t expect anything new from the Black Panther franchise for some time.
Buzzfeed also explained that Boseman’s co-star Letitia Wright — who plays T’Challa’s sister Shuri — in Black Panther said to Net-a-Porter, “We’re just still mourning Chad, so it’s not something I even want to think about.”

I agree. As did Alonso, who added:
Chadwick was not only a wonderful human being every day for the five years that we spent together; but it also seems to me that what he did as the character elevated us as a company. And left his mark in history.”

Finally, sometimes there’s just no replicating history.
